This volume by British explorer Captain John Hanning Speke contains accounts of his first two expeditions into East Africa in the 1850s. Vol 1 is "Journal of Adventures in Somali Land", and Vol 2 is "Journal of a Cruise on the Tanganyika Lake". Both accounts include details of the beliefs and mode of life of the local people, as well as full descriptions of the sometimes harrowing expeditions.
