Publisher Description
A brand new hockey romance standalone from New York Times Bestselling Author Claire Contreras set in the same world as Until I Get You... Finneas Alexander Barlow is a walking thirst trap. Tall, hot, and broody. Tousled brown hair, chiseled jaw, alluring green eyes, perfect teeth, well-groomed beard, broad shoulders, and lips good enough to bite. He’d look like a Disney prince if the prince was a broody ahole. Four years ago, a fated meeting led to an inevitable hook-up. Just one. It’s his rule. One-time hook-ups, no information exchanges, and no repeats. I knew that even before he established his boundaries, and he kept his promise. I hadn’t seen or heard from him since. A year ago, when tragedy struck, he came back to town and sought me out. Gone was the disarming grin and the innuendos he’d once used to make my knees go weak. Unfortunately, his ire was equally debilitating. Now he’s back as the face of Fairview’s brand new professional hockey team and he’s looking for answers I don’t have. Finn won’t accept that, though. He’s as determined to uncover my secrets as I am to keep them. He pushes as hard as I pull. It’s only a matter of time before the rope snaps. Now I can only hope I'm the one left standing. tropes: Morally gray hero obsessed/possessive hero college basketball player heroine hockey player hero Mystery found family

Mystery and Suspense
When We Lied is the second book in the Fairview Hockey series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Finneas Barlow and Josslyn Santos spent one night together, no strings attached, four years ago. Now, he’s back in their town, and a tragedy has drawn them together again.
Josslyn was a star basketball player and an influencer, well-loved by everyone. Finneas was a pro hockey player and a playboy. But when he met Josslyn, he fell hard and fast (and kept trying to deny his feelings).
Whew, this was angsty, and it was full of tension and suspense. I loved the whole “whodunnit” aspect!
Now, Finneas was a total a, even to Josslyn. But he became obsessive, possessive, and protective over her. He also had some sweet moments though, and I loved seeing him slowly realize how he really felt.
I wasn’t super surprised by the plot twist, though I didn’t expect how crazy certain characters were.
Anyway, this was my first book by Claire Contreras and I really enjoyed it!
Audio:
Narrators: Stephen Dexter and Janine Granada
Style: Dual
These two did a great job bringing the story and the characters to life. They, Janine especially, put so much emotion into the story, which made it seem even more suspenseful. The only thing that bothered me was the way Janine pronounced some words — she didn’t really enunciate. Other than that, I enjoyed this audiobook!
Eh
Too long, and not the best writing…
I own you!
This is not a romance or at least not one ant sane person should be a part of! It’s controlling, obsessive, and pornographic with an unrealistic pathetic “mystery “ thrown in. This author needs to learn the term “less is more”
