Painfully beautiful.”—The New York Times Book Review

For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

LOVED the story and the narrator

Great audio book start to finish. Being a “naturalist” of sorts I loved the details about the Marshland ecosystem and also the psychological challenges of living meagerly on one’s own. The narrator was as superb as the story itself.

NARRATOR HAS RUINED THIS BOOK

Where do I start… Her *incorrectly* draw-out vowels, her uncomfortable way of mispronouncing (while also somehow STRANGELY over-articulating) every third words, or maybe just the fact that someone who’s never spoken/heard a TRUE southern dialect in their lifetime shouldn’t be narrating what I’ve BEEN TOLD is a real masterpiece of southern literature.. I do not write reviews, don’t usually have the time, but after 2 attempts to listen to the book only to cringe at the voice telling this story, I just had to get this out…

New Favorite!!!

I initially bought this book because I wanted wanted to read it before watching the movie. I had no idea what I was getting myself into as I fell inlove with it unexpectedly. I was so sad for it to end but the story was beautiful, enticing, unpredictable & leaves you always wanting more, never being able to put it down or pause the audiobook. The audio book as well an an incredible reader who did a great job portraying all angles & characters of this book. Over all 10 outta 10.
