an enjoyable listen
This series is written in the spirit of the Patrick O'Brien series. Drake is successful in capturing the feel of the O'Brian series, not an easy task, with Leery and Mundy replacing Aubrey/Maturin. I enjoyed the first book, and at this price expect to get the whole RCN series. 4 stars is for the narrator who is good but not great especially if you may have listened to Aubrey/Maturin series narrated by Patrick Tull.
A Fun Ride
It is definitely the set-up novel for the rest of the series, and it shows in the story. Otherwise, it is a fun story that takes the listeners for a wild ride. With politics, blackmail, and nobility with all its highs and lows, this adventure tale has hints of both military fiction and science fiction going on in the background, yet somehow still feels like a 18th century-based sea tale.
Buyer Beware
While I enjoy the book, a friend of mine recently tried to buy this book. After his account was charged Itunes was unable to find the file and he has been unable to redeem his purchase.
