聖書はキリスト教の聖典です。
キリスト教は、イスラム教、仏教と並ぶ世界三大宗教の一つで、イエス・キリストを救い主と信じ、2千年の歴史があります。
宗教の中で最も信者が多く、世界の人口の約3割を占めます。

聖書は、イエス以前のユダヤ教の経典である旧約聖書と、イエスの事績を記した新約聖書から成ります。
元々ヘブライ語やギリシャ語で書かれており、全体の英訳がされたのは16世紀でした。
1611年にイギリスのジェームズ国王により、欽定訳(King James Version:KJV)が出されました。
格調高い文体が賞賛され、権威ある聖書として長く用いられました。
日本語の名訳、文語訳聖書の元となった本でもあります。

この欽定訳の旧約聖書、新約聖書、旧約聖書続編を1冊にしました。
表紙や目次に日本語がありますが、中身は英語です。
注釈や引照、小見出しはありません。

聖書は世界最古のベストセラーと言われます。
多くの人が心血を傾け、大勢の救いとなり、時には争いもあった、他にない本です。
昔の英米文学には聖書の引用が登場しますが、多くはこの欽定訳です。
ただし欽定訳は17世紀イギリスの英語なので、馴染みのない単語が混じります。

電子書籍なので、本らしく、好きな大きさの文字で読めます。
出版時を模して紙面はブラックレターの活字、フラクトゥール(Fraktur)です。
フォントを「オリジナル」にして御覧ください。
フォントを切り替えれば、普通のローマン体で読めます。

章節検索のページから目的の章節に飛べますし、オフラインでも読めます。
目次ページにハイライトを付ければ、通読表のように使えるかもしれません。
