When we turn on the news, it is filled with power struggles, especially in government. Everyone hopes that if they put the right leaders in the right positions, all will be well. The problem is that when we get the leader we want, they fail us. One after another leaders shatter our hopes for a better tomorrow like a carton of eggs hitting the floor.
Is there a leader we can trust? Is there a leader worth following? In this book, we follow the people of Israel as they searched for a leader they could trust from 1120 BC to 1011 BC. In those 110 years, the people of Israel were given Saul as their first king. He started strong but soon became nothing more than the next cooked politician. The book finishes with Saul’s death, which combines grief with relief for the people of God. The book leaves us longing for a better leader, a leader we can trust, a leader that won’t let us down. For over a thousand years God’s people kept looking for that leader until he finally showed up. His name is Jesus.
