Spanning disciplines from biology to cosmology, chemistry to psychology to physics, Michael Brooks thrillingly captures the excitement of scientific discovery.Science’s best-kept secret is this: even today, thereare experimental results that the most brilliant scientists cannot explain. In the past, similar “anomalies” have revolutionized our world. If history is any precedent, we should look to today’s inexplicable results to forecast the future of science. A Silly Book
There's some interesting stuff here, real anomalies that remain unexplained. But that's true for most of science and only rarely are paradigms overturned. Voyager is off a tiny bit in its path and all of a sudden Einstein/Newton gravity is wrong. A few times there's extra heat and all of a sudden cold fusion is a viable idea. (What ever happened to five sigmas verification?)
And a few homeopathic tests show some anti-histamine activity, so homeopathy is a legitimate activity? How about figuring out why the tests gave those results because the "spirit" of a substance has never been found nor is there any reason for its existence.
The author wanted to be a contrarian and turned out to be silly.
