Synopsis:

Caroline Hauser is a recent college graduate who settles in New York City after graduation. Caroline moves into her apartment and begins the all important job search. Then frightening things begin to happen around her. With a few friends she’s made, she tries to make sense of it. She begins to come to grips with her latent psychic abilities when she vanishes.

Ten years later, Caroline’s hacker brother takes up the search for his sister. He discovers that a secret government group has been kidnapping people with esp abilities. Now he begins a search and rescue mission to find his sister. He has the help of Jim, one of Caroline’s friends from New York who has metaphysical skills. Together the set out to rescue Caroline and confront this organization.

Review:

There are two parts in 1995. The first part of the story is told in the first person from Caroline Hauser’s point of view. It is told in the format of a diary. The second part is in a more traditional third person voice, mostly from Alexander’s point of view. The first part of the book was slow. It began to pick up with the second part: Alexander and Jim’s search for Caroline. There is a brief flash back for Elijah who is charged with the care of Caroline but other wise minor. This does slow the pace down unnecessarily. The action of the book is for the most par research and intrigue, but other wise interesting. The second part works up toward a climax, but proves a little unsatisfying. Never-the-less, the story is interesting and well worth a read. I am looking forward to reading the sequel.
