Windcross Conservancy

Publisher Description

Every year is an affirmation of what the Windcross Mission is:

To prevent the extinction of the Spanish Mustang horse through preservation, research and education.

We maintain a breeding herd project to protect some of the best and rarest bloodlines within the breed, working diligently on searching for the best horses for the project.  Much as an ark, we feel that we can do our best work by helping breeders find and introduce stock to herds.  Maintaining genetic diversity is critical if this breed is to survive.

We maintain an extensive genetic database through the University of Kentucky, this ensures that no horse is lost to the breed if we can help it.

Finally we provide educational opportunities for our interns, youth, and people within the breed in an effort to reinforce good Spanish Mustang breeding and type.

It has been my joy, angst and mission to see these horses survive for my grand-children and theirs.  Won’t you join us for the ride of a lifetime?
