Publisher Description

9000 Miles In A Knight relates the experience of Pearl MacHenry on her family's road trip across America in 1930. Pearl, her husband Rev. Ward MacHenry, and their four youngest children, ages 14 to 20, set off from Seattle, Washington, on May 18th in their Willys-Knight touring car.

No heat, no radio, bad tires, 4000 miles of unpaved roads.

Pearl recorded the routes and distance they traveled, destinations, her reaction to new places and people, expenses, problems and highlights along the way.

Pearl's journal detailing the trip, her scrapbook containing hundreds of family photos, postcards and brochures, and maps from the 1930 Clason's Touring Atlas provide the historical account of the MacHenry's trip. As if buried in a time capsule until she received them in 1999, Nancy Lang has published these treasures from her grandmother in the book 9000 Miles In A Knight.

Lang tells the story of how she came to receive Pearl's treasures. She has thoroughly researched and documented all names mentioned in Pearl's journal.
