Another great addition to the series!!
I have been all in with Bent Creek’s family saga and small town drama since Marybeth’s and Gabe’s story that kicked off this series in Bent Creek with each book featuring a Harker family son. Each book has its own standalone romance but there was a shared overarching plot — the Harkers family vs the Nobles famkly. One could read this book as a stand-alone but the entire series thus far is fantastic so I would highly encourage anyone to read all of the books. This is written in 3 different POV — our two main characters but also Marybeth Noble, whose story kicked off the entire series. There had always been bad blood between the Harkers and her family - the Nobles - and so you also have a second story of how she navigates her family life since she fell in love with a Harker and has no family support.
This is Ward and Voilet’s story….an enemies to lovers turned marriage of convenience. Going into this book the Harker family were trying to get their family’s land back. They were not successful as the company that owned the land sent out one of their representatives, Violet Barnes, to make sure of it.
Another obstacle enters the picture that threatened to buy the land through the county that surprises both Ward and Violet (& her company) that the two pair together to fight against instead of each other. From there be ready for a fun ride!
The story was well written, truly captivating as you embark on the love that blooms from these two at a time they truly though love with not in the cards for them. Plenty of suspense and twists that kept you engaged and turning pages to see how it all plays out and concludes. I love the journey of self discovery and realization that not everyone is going to use and abuse you….that there are good people out there you can trust and lean on. A closed door romance but there’s plenty of chemistry and tension between Ward and Violet. There are two more brothers and I love how Cahill sets up the next brother’s book with the epilogue.
