Publisher Description
In the beginning no one knew if there would even be a Canadian navy let alone one that would be around 100 years later. The debates that rang though the corridors of the House of Commons in the fall of 1909 oscillated between two possible outcomes for Canada's maritime future. Some politicians of the day preferred the first option; to have Canada act as a helpmate to the Royal Navy by supplying men, materials and money to the venerable British maritime forces. The United Kingdom, in return, would agree to protect Canada's vast coastline.
