A creeping nothingness came crawling
And crept from its itty bitty corner
Spreading all across everything
And everywhere
Until there was not a thing more
Nowhere nor anywhere
There wasn’t even any anywhere
Nor any here nor there
Until there was just Nothingness, you see

Brilliant, Poignant, Revolutionary
So simple, so strange, and yet so familiar. Mr. Maxim takes seemingly ordinary turns of phrase and creates something new with them.
He has really created something, something lasting out of so little, almost nothingness.
His economy of words and even thoughts achieves a great profundity.
He's like a Hemingway for children, and the child inside all of us.
Please give us more, Mr. Maxim...soon.
Dr. Suess meets Sendak meets Sartre
I really just love this book! It's mysterious and silly and playful. I love the illustrations and the gray beginnings of the verse that disappear into the book and I just love the ending as a beginning. I think kids will love being a part of it, being found in the midst of it!
It's like Dr. Suess meets Sendak meets Sartre! What a treat!
Smart and appealing for all ages
We received this book as a gift and it has become one of my daughter's favorites. The story and illustration are both entertaining and enlightening. My daughter was naturally drawn to the simplicity of the language and drawings. I think for older kids the book could really open up interesting conversations between parent and child. As a psychologist, I plan to use this book in my work with children.
