A Day of Fallen Night A Day of Fallen Night

Publisher Description

The New York Times bestselling, stunning, standalone prequel to The Priory of the Orange Tree, now in paperback.

"A magnificent, sweeping epic. Shannon has created a world rich in intricate mythology, beautifully realized and complex." -Jennifer Saint, bestselling author of Ariadne

In A Day of Fallen Night, Samantha Shannon sweeps readers back to the universe of Priory of the Orange Tree and into the lives of four women, showing us a course of events that shaped their world for generations to come.

Tunuva Melim is a sister of the Priory. For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms – but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory's purpose.

To the north, in the Queendom of Inys, Sabran the Ambitious has married the new King of Hróth, narrowly saving both realms from ruin. Their daughter, Glorian, trails in their shadow – exactly where she wants to be.

The dragons of the East have slept for centuries. Dumai has spent her life in a Seiikinese mountain temple, trying to wake the gods from their long slumber. Now someone from her mother's past is coming to upend her fate.

When the Dreadmount erupts, bringing with it an age of terror and violence, these women must find the strength to protect humankind from a devastating threat.

Incredible Prequel

I had some issues with the pacing in Priory of the Orange Tree at the end, and this book covered more material and did not fall into that trap. Absolutely loved this, can’t recommend it highly enough, especially if you’re looking for a more inclusive version of fantasy

Beautiful Masterpiece!

This is now my new favorite book of all time beating out the priory of the orange tree as my number one fantasy. Samantha Shannon is amazing and this was so beautifully written. I was so into it and I was hooked from the beginning. I love these characters so much and I love the world building. I was even very emotional at times reading this. This was more then just a regular read, it was an incredible experience that I will never forget!

Horrible book

Let me summarize the plot: creatures burned the land and caused a plague. The humans and dragons fought back.

So dreary to read page after page describing how things were on fire - it was a book set on repeat for hundreds of pages. Worst book I’ve read in the past year - couldn’t wait for it to be over.
