Publisher Description

Samantha Martin is an imp, enjoying an extended vacation from Hel. All she wants to do is drink beer by the pool, play mischievous pranks on the humans, and get her hot neighbor in the sack. It’s a relaxing break from her infernal home as long as she manages to avoid the angels, who won’t hesitate to execute her on sight.

But when her naughty hellhound lands her in trouble with the local werewolf pack, Sam is blackmailed into helping track and catch a killer. The steps she must take to appease the werewolves will put her right in the crosshairs of the angels. And with angels, there is no second chance.

Fun, engrossing series!

I love the Imp series so far, having read the first 3 books. The characters are well fleshed out, the writing is smart and snappy, and there's supernatural action galore! The main character, Samantha (Sam), is a lesser demon, low on the totem pole of Hel, an imp - a creature who is not truly evil, just kind of misunderstood (and can't resist causing mischief, which inevitably gets her into trouble). The first book introduces us to Sam and her circle of friends, and sets up the uneasy relationship she will have with Gregory, an archangel who is torn between a desire for Sam, and a desire to rid the world of Sam. Her sidekick is a hellhound (of course), and she has a hot young boyfriend that lives next door. If you're a fan of serial novels and supernatural tales with a sense of fun, the Imp series may be for you!

Uh, nope, not fun or interesting

Whoever wrote the description that Sam was an imp that love to play mischievous pranks on people clearly didn’t read the book. Sam is a true psycho without sympathy, empathy or a sense of humor. I don’t mind morally gray characters and there are plenty of good demon books out there, but there is nothing redeemable about this character. She doesn’t play pranks - she’s mean and sadistic. She almost killed the guy she wants to have sex with but didn’t stop not because she liked him but simply because if he was dead she couldn’t have sex with him. I stopped reading when her idea of getting away from someone (no spoilers here) was to try to get arrested, kill the cop and escape.

It’s also not a very interesting story and the plot is slow to develop. It’s mostly Sam’s internal dialog about sex, and not an interesting one. I’m not a prude; 100 pages of someone’s thoughts about sex just gets f-ing boring (there’s no action.) Since I didn’t like Sam at all and she’s not likable in any way, at best I was indifferent on whether she survived and at worst I sometimes wished someone would just kill her and be done with it already. I’m bummed because I love finding a new series and the description sounded interesting. Bummer.
