Interesting Story and Characters
Ophelia Lexington has hit rock bottom. She has lost her home, her fiancé has rejected her, and her brother is in debtor’s prison. She is cold, weak, and nearly starving when a woman on the street tells her to go to the Duke for help. Clayton Duke, illegitimate son of some duke or another runs an unusual brothel. The women in his house are encouraged to decide for themselves what their lives will be, the brothel, independent, or marriage. Duke helps them achieve that goal. He knows immediately that Ophelia is different. Duke is negotiating with the Smith Brothers and their associates to sell the brothel and work for them setting up other houses. He believes Ophelia can help him because she has the knowledge and skills of a lady. Along the way, Clayton, a man who has sworn not to marry falls in love with his unexpected treasure. Things seem to be progressing when a new villain appears. A with the other book in the series, this one has mystery, danger, and unexpected romance. It also has the discovery of one brother and the rescue of another. This is wonderfully exciting story with a great plot, remarkable characters, some twists and surprises, and a happy ending. Interesting story and characters. I am looking forward to Lockton’s story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
