"If...looking for something new with Austen’s spirit, humor, and dashing heroes, they can’t do better than MacGregor." - Entertainment Weekly
A Duke in Time is the first book in a three-story arc that will have you rooting for leading heroines, searching for lost dowries, and falling for swoon-worthy heroes.
Katherine Vareck is in for the shock of her life when she learns upon her husband Meri's accidental death that he had married two other women. Her entire business, along with a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be a royal supplier, is everything she's been working for and now could be destroyed if word leaks about the three wives.
Meri's far more upstanding brother, Christian, Duke of Randford has no earthly clue how to be of assistance. He spent the better part of his adult years avoiding Meri and the rest of his good-for-nothing family, so to be dragged back into the fold is…problematic. Even more so is the intrepid and beautiful Katherine, whom he cannot be falling for because she's Meri's widow. Or can he?
With a textile business to run and a strong friendship forming with Meri's two other wives, Katherine doesn't have time for much else. But there's something about the warm, but compellingly taciturn Christian that draws her to him. When an opportunity to partner in a business venture brings them even closer, they'll have to face their pasts if they want to share each other's hearts and futures.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
MacGregor (Wild, Wild Rake) packs this saucy Regency-era romp, the first in the Widow Rules series, with scandalous secrets and sordid affairs that threaten the welfare of a successful businesswoman. Boutique owner Katherine "Kat" Greer married her husband, Meriwether Varek, never suspecting that she was but one of Meriwether's three wives. His polygamy only comes to light after his death, when the three widows meet at the reading of his will. Christian Varek, the Duke of Randford, has never been close to his family, but he feels it's his duty to help the women who have been duped by his younger half brother. He teams up with Kat, the savviest of the trio, to protect their reputations, and is soon seduced by Kat's intelligence and humor, while she is drawn to his playful side. Meanwhile, Meriwether's widows find comfort in each other and band together to form a family of their own. But when Kat's toughest business competitor uncovers a secret from her past, he blackmails her into choosing between her business—upon which her employees' livelihoods depend—and her relationship with Christian. Throughout all the drama, the slow-burning love between Christian and Kat is the eye of the storm, and their convincing connection will melt readers' hearts. With powerful themes of acceptance, forgiveness, and second chances, this impassioned series launch promises more good things to come.

4 Stars!
4 Stars! Aww! I love this story! It has such a unique storyline & I’ve never read a book like it before. This is the first book in a new series that has a HEA ending and can be read as a standalone. Katherine, the heroine, was likable and relatable. Christian, the hero & brother to a trigamist, was likable and I find myself wishing for a real life Christian of my own! I can NOT wait for the rest of the series! I definitely recommend this one! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one & REALLY can’t wait for the other wives books!
Also - This book had me thinking of all the men that had gone away to fight only to come home with injuries and no job and that’s only IF they were ‘lucky’ enough to come home!
*I received this book at no charge from NetGalley & I voluntarily left this review.*
Don’t make the time
This was the silliest, historically awful, childish book. The characters spoke and read more like a modern book. The historical accuracy went right out the window as so many rules of etiquette were crossed that the ton followed. At times the main characters seemed very childish; or the writer wrote with immaturity for this genre. The main H comes off as cold, unapproachable and a former soldier in the beginning, but pages later he’s asking for approval and striving not to cry and telling someone he almost kissed a woman? And then the h fell for the main H in a matter of 4 weeks or less, but yet her first spouse she fell for in 3 wks and turns out it was a bad choice. And then it seemed everything bad kept happening to her but it was nothing very serious, all silly. Give this one a hard pass. No real story line, no real angst, the main characters never really had a connection.
A Duke in Time
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I love this author and this story so much that I also purchased a copy.
All I can say is WOW!!!! This book was totally enchanting. I adored all of the characters especially Kat. What a heart of gold. The author did an outstanding job of really making me really feel for the character. I so wanted to be someone that would be included in her circle of friends! Of course, Christian was nothing to sneeze at either.
The cast of characters and the circumstances that surround them are laid down in the prequel, Where There's a Will BUT it doesn't have to be read to fully enjoy this story.
This is a very sexy story so I would not recommend it to anyone under the age of 18. But if you are someone like me who adores English historical romances, than look no further. In fact, I adore this author.
I truly hope the author does address two secondary characters somewhere in the other two stories. That if Willa and Morgan (PLEASE!!!!)
