First comes love, then comes marriage. Unless it's the otherway around. . .
General Mark Grimaldi has sacrificed everything for his military career, working his way through the ranks without the benefit of a nobleman's title. Now, his years of dedication are about to pay off—with an offer for a prestigious promotion to Home Secretary. There's only one condition: Mark must be married. Aside from the small matter of not actually wanting to be wed, Mark faces another troubling problem: he already has a wife.
Nicole Huntington Grimaldi has spent ten contented years in France without her husband—and without regret. When Mark asks her to return to London and play the part of his beloved wife, she sees her chance. But neither of them is prepared for news that will throw Mark's future into chaos…nor the undeniable desire they've rekindled. Maybe happily-ever-after can happen the second time around in A Duke Like No Other, the next Regency romance from Valerie Bowman.

Bowman's ninth Playful Brides Regency (after The Right Kind of Rogue) reunites a career soldier and his independent wife after a 10-year separation. Gen. Mark Grimaldi has political aspirations of becoming the next home secretary after spending his adult life in the military. Upon learning that he must be married in order to be considered for the position, Mark travels to France to ask his estranged wife, Nicole, to return to England with him until he achieves his goal. She agrees to Mark's conditions as long as he will consent to fathering a child with her. Mark and Nicole are both unprepared for the intense mutual longing they experience when reunited, and they are haunted by the misunderstandings of their pasts. When an unexpected death puts Mark next in line to inherit a title, Mark and Nicole join forces to investigate the murder, and their interactions sizzle with emotions and sensuality. The fast pace of the novel is enhanced by delightful characters who are defined not by their class but by their integrity. This is a strong entry in an enjoyable series.

Engaging reunited lover’s romance
I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
I always enjoy Valerie Bowman’s books. Her stories and characters are engaging. Mark and Nicole’s story of second chance romance did not disappoint. The couple had not seen each other for ten years after they’d married. Nick seeks her out since he’s up for a promotion and his chances of getting it are improved if he is seen to be a settled married man. Nicole agrees to return with him. They had to deal with some unexpected situations upon their return but it is these circumstances that allow them to work through the unresolved issues and hurts from their past.
Valerie Bowman never disappoints
I’m not usually a huge fan of second chance romances, but A Duke like no other is an emotional roller coaster from the beauty and heartbreak of old lovers reuniting to the suspense of a great mystery. I cried and then I rejoiced with Nicole. If only every book did such a fantastic job of captivating its audience.
Wonderful
