A Flying Trip Around the World

In 1889, a race around the world began with the goal of completing it faster than the fictional Phileas Fogg from Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days. Through a bizarre series of media events and missteps one of the contestants did not even know there was a competitor. Elizabeth Bisland was that competitor. There was controversy over who caught which steamer and why, namely bribery, so Elizabeth ultimately lost, though she did complete the journey in fewer than 80 days. A Flying Trip chronicles her adventure from start to finish.
