Description de l’éditeur
Lord Julian Caldicott, still recovering from his years at war, is tasked with investigating the circumstances of a small boy who could be either the salvation of the Waltham dukedom or a pawn in a scheme to sink the Caldicott family in endless scandal. The boy is alone in the world, though any one of several women might be his mother, and they all claim that Julian’s brother, the late Lord Harry Caldicott, was the child's father.
To uncover the boy's parentage, Julian must face demons from his own past, solve puzzles left behind by Lord Harry, and thwart enemies who wish the lad harm for reasons of their own. His investigation takes him from barracks, to brothels, and to Hyde Park by dark of night. The longer he searches, the more tangled—and dangerous—the mystery becomes, for Julian and for the innocent child who deserves to know the truth of his own birthright.

Another kind of love
I like that the book shows that love between two people is not always physical but can still be very real. Lord Julian and Hyperia's relationship is indeed true love and companionship.
The foibles and imperfections of the two are enchanting. These Regency mysteries have a depth of characterization that is lacking in many mysteries. It is fun to watch the development of characters possible in a series.
Another Great Tale
I’m always so impressed when an author has such an imagination in which they can come up with another new story and miraculously tie it to one of the characters in the long line from previous works. I absolutely adore the series, I have high hopes for the main character as well as supporting characters.
Lord Juli A worthwhile and enthralling addition to “The Lord Julian Mysteries”
Lord Julian Caldicott returned from war with both physical and mental challenges. Nevertheless, his brother Arthur, the Duke of Waltham, asks him to investigate an orphaned child who is rumored to be the illegitimate son of their late brother Harry. With several women all claiming to be the boy’s mother (each with her own agenda for claiming such), it’s up to Julian to find the truth, always keeping front and center the wellbeing of an innocent child. This standalone mystery is a worthwhile and enthralling addition to “The Lord Julian Mysteries,” but I highly recommend reading the entire set as it is a well constructed series where each book keeps the reader guessing until the final revelation. Repeat characters from previous novels only sweeten the read. Ms. Burrowes has a writing style that is complex, yet accessible, with beautifully constructed sentences and period appropriate values and language. This book was provided by the author without any requirement for a review, positive or otherwise. All opinions are 100% my own.
