A Gentleman's Affair

I loved this book! Different from what i usually read, it's fun to read from a male point of view. I read this in 2 days, hardly put it down. I can't wait for the next one! I'll be on the edge of my seat till then...

I would recommend this book. This was a page turner for me....literally had to force myself to put it down. When I finished I couldn't wait to dive into book 2!!

If you’re tired of being dragged through the emotional wringer of tear-jerking erotic novels, and want to read a book that's simple, life affirming, romantic, sexy AND hilarious, pick up a copy of A Gentleman's Affair, and don't put it down until the end.

The protagonist, Donovan Hart, is at first glance fairly typical of all contemporary book boyfriends: gorgeous, wealthy, smart, successful, sexy, & single. But the similarities end there. Donovan doesn’t have any of the usual deep childhood traumas that make BBFs dark, deeply conflicted and sometimes dangerous. He’s pretty much an open book, because the story is told entirely from his point of view. And the majority of it is simply hilarious.

It is refreshing to see such clean, crisp, authentic writing in a masculine voice; it’s long overdue in this genre. It is obvious that AJ Linn writes with great feeling, passion for his characters, and an ironic sense of humor that engages the reader from page one.

The story line describes Donovan’s search for “the one” after endless nights of drinking, gambling, debauchery, and one-night stands. His journey runs the gamut from the ridiculous to the sublime, taking the reader on a joyous and heartfelt journey, laughing nearly all the way. He hints about secrets from his sordid playboy past that occasionally come back to bite him. And, of course, there is “the Ex”, who shows up to keep him off balance as she tries to win him back at any cost.

But this very well developed character also has a sad side, hidden beneath a façade of cocky confidence and a sense of irony. He is still grieving the death of his mother and mourning its effect on his father. The collapse of their loving family life, the pressures of running the luxury Malibu hotel that is their legacy, and the vision to build another grand hotel drives him, but also takes its toll.

Throughout, you find yourself pulling for Donovan. He is a true gentleman at heart. His search for someone to spend his life with is sincere, and his efforts to overcome his past are often funny, but not without heartache as well. And then there is the cliff-hanging ending that you literally never see coming.

A Gentleman’s Affair is well worth reading because it has genuine heart and soul, with great humor, trials and triumphs - and all the way through, you hope that Donovan will finally find – and keep - the well-deserved woman of his dreams. I can’t wait to get my hands on the sequel, A Gentleman's Secret, because I have fallen in love with the truly endearing, principal character, his mysterious past, and the colorful women in his life. I know that the sequel will be full of humor, passion, erotic moments, and most of all hope - which, at the end of the day, we all need.
