A Good Place to Be

There are many things poetry can do better than mere conversations. And, even if you choose not to put your thoughts into a poetic form, just reading it aloud to your loved one is a special gift and can lead to moments that will become treasured memories. Poetry can convey adventure, drama, romance, humor, and any other aspect of human life, often in a special way.

How important is poetry? Let me answer that question in one way: Every song—whether it be a jingle, child’s tune, sacred hymn, opera or oratorio piece, vocal music heard via radio or in concert halls—was first a poem.

In our fifty-plus years of marriage, poetry has become like special desserts—not every day, but often enough to be considered a treat we both look forward to.
