Publisher Description
A Is For Afro: Reading Is Power is a primer for children aged 0 to 6. Besides introducing the alphabet, this book will teach early readers almost half of the 315 Dolch Sight Words that all children need to know before entering the second grade. A list of these high-frequency words are included herein. A Is For Afro stands apart from other ABC books in that it provides parents and teachers with concrete lessons to build children’s reading comprehension, primary vocabulary, and writing tool kit, which itself will prepare children to craft grammatically correct sentences as they learn to read. Children who read and experience this book as a living artifact will gain a head start toward full literacy, broad outlook, and aesthetic appreciation.

A IS FOR AFRO Is Wonderful & 54 Pages in Length!
A IS FOR AFRO: READING IS POWER is a wonderful book for all children who are learning to read as well as write. The book is actually 54 pages in length, NOT 17, as listed on this Web site under "Information."
If the book were only 17 pages in length, which the print version clearly is NOT, my students would not be able to learn all 26 alphabets--A IS FOR AFRO devotes 1 page for each of the 26 letters of the alphabet--and to take advantage of APPENDICES I, II, III, and IV at the back of the book, which consist of a glossary, practice sentences, an extensive sight word list, not to mention oral, aural, and written exercises.
For use in K-1 classrooms and at home, I highly recommend A IS FOR AFRO: READING IS POWER for ALL children aged 0 to 6!
