Interesting Collection
The is an interesting collection of stories that take a different look at some familiar legends, myths, and other stories from throughout the ages. All of the original stories may not have had happy endings, but that is not true of these entertaining stories.
The Duke of Rhuddlan, Cora Lee’s hero in The Duchess of Darkness, is not a demon or the reincarnation of Vlad the Impaler, but you wouldn’t know that by his reputation. A reputation provided him by his jealous brother. Olivia Stone is trying to have a new and peaceful life away from London and scandal. Two things stand in her way, decreasing income and a cruel and dangerous suitor who insists she marry him. Out of necessity and for protection, these two along with Olivia’s neighbors, set out thwart the efforts of both enemies. Can they stop the brazen brother and crazed suitor and find their happily ever after? Action, suspense, and romance. Great read!
When the Marquess returns by Alanna Lucas is the regency equivalent of Romulus and Remus. All of the familiar elements are here. The twins are stolen as infants, raised by a loving lady and her father, rediscovered by their true family. Maximus and Lucious St. Albans find they are the grandsons, and heirs, to a duke. Someone not happy about that. There is an evil, jealous uncle, one brother who almost turns on the family, and a lovely lady who falls in love with Max. Sabina, known unkindly as the cursed heiress, is companion to their birth mother. She and Max have a wonderful rapport, and fall in love almost instantly. As often happens, their road to HEA is difficult, but not impossible. There are still questions. Who took the boys and why? Which of the twins in now the Marquess of March? Wonderful retelling with great characters.
