Publisher Description

Sara Crewe, who has been raised like a little princess, is sent to an English school leaving her father and her home in India. Unknowing of her weary days coming to a start soon in this foreign settlement, she begins her journey inside this cloudy land of school.

As years pass inside the school, this bright young girl learns to warm others' hearts and breathes life into her beautiful fairy-tales, giving hope to other children. Even when she becomes a scullery-maid and is sent off to the lonely attic when the school realizes her rich father has gone, with an unfaltering spirit she does not lose her will and the charm in her heart. Spiteful words and the changes in the tones of grown-ups now avoiding her for her poorness does not defeat her.

Her imagination and natural gift of storytelling keeps the brightness in her eyes alive; this charming story of Sara the little princess, is like one of her own fairy-tales. Even though this book that has enchanted many readers already, A Little Princess has not lost its magic still.

Frances Hodgson Burnett is mainly known for her works A Little Princess, A Little Prince and The Secret Garden. These sweet collections returns the forgotten childhood emotions and memories to adults and sends a magical message to children about their everyday lives; her lovely words have brought life to the everlastingly young and joyful characters; to this day they still manage to bring out the forgotten memories of sweetness in life forth. But these rosy faces of the beautiful characters were actually drawn upon Burnett's loneliness and dispirited early days; recollections of her downhearted childhood is portrayed in many of her works; born in 1849, her father having died when she were just five years old, she spent a lonely childhood with a heavy load upon her shoulders. As for this most of her works contain young women being abandoned and unloved, but being rewarded in the end. In fact, her main themes include 'changes of heart'- stories of spitefully lonely people being loved or being happy at last; and unlikely friendships, to befriending a miserable scullery-maid and to making friends with a red-breasted robin. The many turns and changes in her own life and heart gave birth to the unending youth of her beautiful stories. Her life had been a story indeed.
