A LOVE SO STRONG. 3 HEARTFELT STORIES
These maybe short, but they each had good advice in them. They may have been written awhile back, it so true today.
CAUGHT OFF GUARD We meet Jillian and Riley, having been married for 5 years. Divorce now coming in 3 days, and she wants him back, But wait a minute, she was the one who had the one night . Yet, was there a problem from the beginning ? For she was reluctant to share herself.
OPPOSITES ATTRACT We meet Jase, son of a minister, and Molly, who is Jill's sister. Was interesting to see a man confess that his orderly existence that had been drilled into him, was the root of the problem. He wouldn't bend, and wanted to keep them being together quiet. His need to keep overachieving drove a wedge between them and she runs. Will he learn to bend, to get her back ?
AN IMPOSSIBLE MISSION. We meet Logan who has a thing about protecting pregnant women and children. When he gets a call about a baby kidnapping ring. The last operation almost got him killed, is when he met Isabelle. She came onto him, knowing what she wanted. Could he do another operation, if he knew. She would be part of it
3 great, interesting stories, you will enjoy, and share. Of how others would handle the mess these 3 couples did.
Heartfelt
This book is a compilation of three novellas that were published over a decade ago. I normally save novellas for times when I don't want to invest a lot of emotional energy into a book, because the characters are often barely fleshed out. These three novellas were a pleasant change.
I have read Ms. Shay's writing before, and have always liked the way she delves into the deeper, more heartfelt parts of her characters. I was curious if she would be able to achieve that in a novella. I'm pleased to admit that she succeeded admirably.
These three novellas are all loosely linked by a couple of sisters and a couple of 'best friend' relationships. The characters move in and out of all three novellas, but each story focuses on two separate characters.
I have always hated it when anyone experiences infidelity, because it seems like a no-brainer: people in committed relationships don't cheat. In Caught Off Guard, there is is an example of a couple who love each other deeply, and one of them cheats one time, and immediately regrets it. The angst and regret is so palpable, it practically leaps off the page. Well-done, Ms. Shay!
In Opposites Attract, Molly is a colorful throwback from the 60's, in love with an everything is black and white, staid lawyer. He breaks her heart by claiming that they are just too 'different.' They go their separate ways, both mourning the loss of the other. It takes a while, but they finally figure it out, with a huge nudge from Logan, Molly's best friend.
Logan figures prominently in An Impossible Mission, as he is reunited with his ex-partner from his earlier undercover career. He feels betrayed by her, as she inadvertently put the job above their relationship, and it cost both of them dearly. They have over 2 years of history and memories of the times they worked together, and both of them are having a difficult time moving on.
Each of these stories feels much longer, in that the reader gets to know these characters on a deeper level than one would normally experience in a novella. I gave this book 5 stars for that reason alone. This was well-done. I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a bad review if it weren't as well-crafted as it is. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Second Chances
A Love So Strong is 3 novellas in one book. I actually loved having the three stories in one book as to me it was a continuation of first story just focusing on another couple's relationship in the 2nd and 3rd book. Though in each book we touch base with each couple.
CAUGHT OFF GUARD-Jillian Kimball comes home with just a few days to try to stop her divorce from Riley Sullivan. She works very hard to prove she is a changed woman and can be the woman that Riley fell in love with. But can Riley forgive her for what I feel is the unforgiveable? I had a hard time with this one as I went through the same experience in my first marriage and it made me 'rethink' about a lot of things. Everyone wants a Riley in their life.
AN IMPOSSIBLE MISSION-the story continues on with Molly Sullivan (Jillian's sister) and Jase McKay (Riley's Best Friend). This started out a true opposites attrack story. Molly is a little different than the norm. Lives life on her own terms, dresses how she wants (a free spirit). Jase is a more uptight, straight laced lawyer. Cares too much about about public opinion. I think that Jase was trying to live his life to what others expectations and was picking at Molly about how she dressed, acted, essentially everything that made Molly the unique, caring individual she is. He broke things off with her. Greatly hurting her in the process. There is consequences to their relationship and when Jase finds out he tries to get back into Molly's good graces. I love the stunt that Logan, Molly's BFF, pulled on Jase to make him realize just how much Molly meant to him and what he would do to prove it. Loved this happy ending as Molly deserves the absolute best!
AN IMPOSSIBLE MISSION-we continue on with Logan Kane (Molly's best friend), who owns the restaurant next to Molly's store. You kind of get the sense from books 1 and 2 that there is more to Logan. Logan is 'retired' Black Op who worked for the ORGANIZATION. He's asked to come back to work another mission to stop a baby selling organization and rescue one of the kidnapped baby's. When showing up to get briefed on the mission he finds that he will be pretending to be married to fellow team member, Belle Sachetti. They were in a very hot and heavy relationship until things fell apart in the last mission they worked together and the trust Logan had was blown to bits. During this new mission they discover they are still deeply in love but at the end of the mission Logan has to decide if he can forgive, let the past live in the past and obtain the bright future he deserves. God Bless Meddling Molly. She's a true best friend. I was thrilled that Logan got his own story as I was getting the feeling that maybe he had hidden feelings for Molly and was coming out the hurt party. Glad to find out that isn't the case.
