Publisher Description
On August 4th Lieutenant-General Marc Lessard sat down with publisher Scott Taylor for a wide ranging discussion on the transformation and evaluation of the Canadian Forces over the past three decades. This is the second instalment of a two-part interview with the commander of CEFCOM. Scott Taylor: During our earlier discussion, you were painting a somewhat positive picture on the NATO build up in Afghanistan. That was strictly from the perspective of NATO's current level of capability compared to what it was back in 2008 when you were the Regional Commander South. When my team visits Afghanistan, we spoke to some of the Afghan stakeholders and the consensus is that they realize the west is losing patience with the campaign. There seems to be a frantic flurry right now for them to get as much money out of the international commitment as possible before they leave. The Afghans seem intent on taking care of their individual survival rather than building a state.
