Publisher Description

This 33-chapter 1.5 GB ebook is a commenced-in-2014 updating of Wayne Tustin’s 2005 hard cover 33-chapter text “Random Vibration & Shock Testing.” Intended audience: newcomers to dynamic environmental testing, test conductors, their supervisors and test witnesses. Also designers whose products will be shaken and shocked. Users may have earned an engineering degree, but very few universities have shakers or shock test machines on which students can gain practical experience. The author proudly states that this ebook is technician-level, technician-understandable. Yet numerous PhDs have thanked him for clarifying vibration testing theory. He shifted to ebook for ease in playing the many videos given him by grateful students, participants in Wayne’s short courses and solo learning; Wayne anticipates receiving more videos.
Following a brief (and not very deep) introduction to vibration theory, Wayne introduces readers to accelerometers and force sensors for gathering field data and for measuring and recording test lab activities. Calibration of accelerometers and force sensors follows. Major topics: single axis and multiaxis mechanical shakers, electrohydraulic (servohydraulic) shakers and electrodynamic shakers and their power amplifiers. Also controls for conducting sinusoidal and random vibration tests and shock tests. Fixtures for attaching test items, head expanders and slip table accessories are discussed.
