Professional art authenticator Leonard Anderson covets his patron Luella Parson's Cartwright paintings so much that he decides to substitute his own clever forgeries for the originals and set fire to her mansion to hide evidence of fraud. Unfortunately, dear old Luella perishes in the fire too. But that's only the beginning of Leonard's problems.
