Noah Davis was born into slavery in Virginia.Davis bought freedom for himself, his wife, and their two youngest children in 1851.In the subsequent years Davis bought the freedom for 3 of their remaining 5 enslaved children.He published a biography in 1859 in an attempt to raise enough money to free the last two sons that were still enslaved.This edition includes a table of contents.
