A Poor Stick

Arthur George Morrison was an English writer and journalist known for his realistic novels and stories about working-class life in London's East End.

It a short story about an atypical family. Mrs. Jennings is a woman of large scale and full development, and her husband, Robert, is a poor stick. « A poor stick» is a Robert's nickname.  Their neighbours give him such a name. And why?! The answer is simple: his wife rules at home, she cooks a dinner when she wants. Mr. Jennings brings up their children, gets them food, washes them etc.. This story gives us an example of an unusual family, where a woman has power and controls everything. How will their relationships develop? Will this family be happy or not?
