A Sound From Afar

There is a particular kind of dark that every searching soul knows.

Not the darkness of despair. But the darkness of the one who is genuinely looking — who has felt the ache that no achievement has quieted, who carries a question that no circumstance has yet answered.

It is in this darkness that a sound from afar acts like a light.

A Sound From Afar is a contemplative journey through the interior life. From the prayer beneath all prayers — the cry of the scattered soul asking to be brought home — through confusion, through the turning inward, through the grace that penetrates — to the returning.

Written in the Sufi contemplative tradition. For every searching soul regardless of background or belief.

If it reaches you in your particular darkness — if something in it acts, even briefly, like a light — then it has done what a sound from afar is meant to do.
