Good pace, like-able characters, addicting story
Any book that will keep me in bed on my day off all day, reading, trying to finish so I can find out what happens, is a great book. When I first started reading it, I found the writing to be a bit stilted and juvenile. However, as someone who just finished reading Watership Down and the newest from Stephen King, I think the change in target audience was a shock to my system. Once I got used to the writing style, I found myself drawn in.
There is a deep sense of love for each of the characters that comes from the author. This is something I look for in a book. Nothing loses my attention faster than an author who writes characters she cannot stand. This love and understanding transfers to the reader, who in turn then cares what happens to the four protagonists.
This is a fairly simple story but surrounds itself in a truly unique universe and surprising supporting characters. I will be waiting in anticipation for the sequels.
