An Apple Books Classic edition.
Combining brilliant deduction with an unexpectedly sprawling story, Arthur Conan Doyle’s first Sherlock Holmes novel introduces one of literature’s most enduring partnerships.
Recently returned from military service, Dr. John Watson meets the eccentric and relentlessly observant Sherlock Holmes in London. When a baffling murder leads Holmes through a maze of clues, the investigation becomes a tale of betrayal and vengeance in the American West.
Watson watches his new companion transform scattered evidence into certainty, as the case reveals how a grievance carried across decades can turn poisonous. A Study in Scarlet’s brisk, inventive, and structurally daring style captures the birth of a legendary relationship, and the moment the modern detective story found its voice.

Love it!
I first read this book in 8th grade, and I have loved it ever since. It is awesome that they offer these for free because my son is getting to the age of reading assignments,so this works out well. Thank you!
Stellar
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did a fantastic job in crafting the Sherlock Holmes series. I can rarely find literature that is as captivating as this, and the fact that it's free and portable is pretty cool and convenient.
Great read!
I never thought that this story would be so gripping every step of the way. I read "The Red-Headed League" and was a little disappointed, but this wonderful story more than made up for it. Doyle is the master of the mystery. So much fun to read!
