A Tale of Two Churches
Publisher Description
Nothing quite so sad as a church that once was new and exciting.
As soon as you turn toward being respectable
you have just left the road of the new and exciting.
It took a long time for Church A to turn the proverbial corner.
The pastor would say for years, "We are still on our honeymoon”.
But he began to turn the corner toward respectability.
It was imperceptible for years. But the signs were appearing.
The sad story of the downslide of Church A, and how Church B is going down the same road, is documented in this work. It is all common knowledge to the many people that passed through these two churches.
This author has had the experience of observing two churches.
One since 1980. And the other since 2001.
The two are similar in many many ways.
Both experienced their glory days.
And both are now struggling.
Church A is now on the ropes and, but for the grace of God, would be in bankruptcy.
Church B does not know they are making mistakes similar to the mistakes of Church A.
Now, this author has the benefit of hindsight from experience with
Church A. So he can observe Church B through the lens of that experience. In addition, he is older and has broader life experiences than the four pastors of Church B. He is old enough to be the father of three of the pastors.
