Publisher Description
#1 New York Times bestselling author of The Selection series Kiera Cass is back with her most epic novel yet—a sweeping enemies-to-lovers standalone romance.
“Love has a sound. It sounds like a thousand heartbeats happening at the same time.”
Princess Annika has lived a life of comfort—but no amount of luxuries can change the fact that her life isn’t her own to control. The king, once her loving father, has gone cold, and Annika will soon be forced into a loveless marriage for political gain.
Miles away, small comforts are few and far between for Lennox. He has devoted his life to the Dahrainian army, hoping to one day help them reclaim the throne that was stolen from them. For Lennox, the idea of love is merely a distraction—nothing will stand in the way of fighting for his people.
But when love, against all odds, finds them both, they are bound by its call. They can’t possibly be together—but the irresistible thrum of a thousand heartbeats won’t let them stay apart.
Kiera Cass brings her signature sparkling romance to this beautiful story of star-crossed lovers and long-held secrets.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
When her austere father and placating brother demand that 18-year-old Princess Annika Vedette of Kadier marry her cloying cousin Nickolas for political gain, Annika accepts to appease them, despite her reservations. But when she is kidnapped by Lennox, a ruthless mercenary from the exiled Dahrainian clan, Annika learns worrying truths about her homeland and her mother's disappearance three years before. Meanwhile Lennox, believing that Kadier's throne rightfully belongs to the Dahrainians, intends to take it back. The two teens grow closer when a momentous event forces them to rely on each other or risk being killed, and romantic feelings begin to blossom. While they struggle to survive and war looms on the horizon, Lennox finds himself torn between lifelong loyalties and newfound love. Cass (the Selection series) employs thinly developed alternating perspectives rendered in broad expository strokes to explore themes of palace intrigue, buried histories, and toxic familial dynamics. Though pacing is occasionally laborious, a tightly wound plot channels Romeo and Juliet with an enemies-to-lovers slant and notes of female empowerment. Ages 13–up.

Obsessed!
Couldn’t stop reading once I started! My favorite Kierra Cass book yet. Well written, thorough storyline with intriguing dialogue, action, adventure, romance, devastation, etc…. This book was everything and I’m still not over how obsessed I instantly became. Honestly so blown away by how much this book exceeded my expectations.
I usually don’t like romantic novels but, A Thousand Heartbeats makes the exception
This novel about romance and royal monarchy is one of my favorite Kiera Cass books. I love how Kiera described Annika not as a spoiled or too lady like but as a intelligent and feisty princess. How the relationship between Annika and Lennox started as enemies to lovers is a interesting but complex transition. I also love how Kiera wrote all the characters as complex and individual like people in real life which made me sometimes thought that they were real while I was reading. Overall, amazing book. I definitely recommend this novel. Trust me, you will thank me for it.
A Truly Captivating Story
I was quite intrigued with how well written and formed this novel was. The storyline was solid and well developed, providing various unexpected twists and turns that managed to cause me to jump up in shock or scream out in rebellion “No!” The characters were very well crafted and had deep layers to them that made them very likable. I especially enjoyed the back and forth between the minds of Annika and Lennox, which is not often given on the basis of a chapter novel. The only thing I could say in doubt towards this quite mesmerizing story was that the romance in the book doesn’t have much a slow burn (if you are a fan of that). I personally loved the way the Author wrote Lennox and Annika’s love story… I feel it was paced nicely and delivered beautifully- quite honestly making the ending so bitter sweet because I truly wanted to see more from them! I would say some would take their whirlwind fated romance as a bit rushed, which I can understand but am able to look further into how perfect it fit them that I am unable to be bothered by it. They did start thinking of the “Love” word quite early but hey, as the quite popular phrase states. “When you know you know!” This book was thrilling adventure and I highly recommend if you are looking for something that tells a beautiful story that is able to keep you at the edge of your seat. Constant doubts oddly replaced with gorgeous quips, this book is refreshing in its state that it delivers what it needs and gives what you want and didn’t know you wanted. I truly loved it.
