Slow start but worth it
The beginning of the story was hard to read , boring and seemed as if it was going nowhere. About 20 pages in I had to google reviews and a lot of people felt the same way I did. Stuck on the F train I decided to give it a second chance . At the end I appreciated her details of how New York was in the 1900’s and grew to love the characters.
Don’t give up and keep reading to the end !

Wow. This book, although something I admittedly did not pick out myself, was a great read and I'm already reading it for a third time. I was assigned this book the winter break of my freshmen year and although I loathed my teacher assigning me reading assignments, this book was worth all that time spent.
A great slice of time
This is a book describes growing up in the 1910’s. The family and their ways of coping in challenging times was fascinating. What strong characters were built in trials and turbulent times , we could all learn from.
