A new look at the War of 1812 with an emphasis on the militia under the Federal 1792 Militia Act. An Act that required all able bodied men to own a firearm, but also required that they own a musket and not a rifle. Not all the States implemented this act to this extreme, as did not all the men purchase a proper musket. The results effected how the militia operated during the war and, as a result, how effective they were against enemy forces raining from Native tribes to British Regulars
