When the Audley's new consultant, Patrick Corrigan, meets nurse and single-mom Annie Mortimer, he is captivated by her kindness, her courage and her fierce independence. Annie and her daughter bring out all of Patrick's protective instincts. In helping them, Patrick finds a desire and a purpose that he thought he'd never feel again.
