Publisher Description
Michelle has been figuring out what her life is like now that the demon has been killed, and Sylvia and Varro are dead. Even the clans of witches trying to attract her to their way of life have backed off and given her a chance to grieve. Her relationship with Elron is stronger than ever, but there are things left unsaid.
On the way to her parents' wedding, the delicate calm she'd been living in is broken. Witches are out for her blood, her family is caught in the crossfire, and friendships are threatened. Work doesn't let up either, and she partners up with Elron to deal with magic gone wild. Steadily Marches to the Conclusion, But…
Many times in life the first item in a series - book, movie, date, etc. - is often the most intriguing because of the opportunities to explore and reveal all of the unknowns. In my opinion, the same holds true in this book series. It only became an issue when the behavior of the main character changed in an unlikely way and the logic of the plot thread began to unravel a bit, even as many of the plot threads were tied off.
Why would Michelle so rapidly dispense with the careful magical planning and preparation that had defined her life up until that point? Why would she not take advantage of the knowledge and training that had become available to her? Why were key characters not better protected? Why did Michelle fail to more thoroughly explore the new sources of power provided by the ancients during the previous novel? Why did the frequent (often multiple times daily) calls from the police virtually disappear once Michelle began to focus on her own personal challenges? The list goes on…
In my opinion, this series hit something of a flat note because of these apparent inconsistencies with Michelle’s core personality and behavior earlier in the series.
