Pierce knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most. PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The wildly rich and beautiful Pierce Oliviera died and came back to life "I was flatline for over an hour." Ever since, her life has been exceedingly complicated. Two years after Pierce's near-death experience, the 17-year-old has been expelled from her posh Connecticut girls' school; her mother has moved them to the South Florida island of Isla Huesos; and Pierce must cope both with being the new girl and with a dark, handsome guy, who she met while she was dead and who won't leave her alone. While the fun premise and Pierce's irreverent voice are trademark Cabot, this novel has trouble getting off the ground. Cabot loosely hangs her story on the myth of Hades and Persephone, but the plot is hampered by confusing digressions and frequent jumps in time that make it difficult to pinpoint what's in the present and what's in the past. However, Cabot's avid fans including devotees of her earlier forays into paranormal romance, as in the Mediator series are likely to forgive the bumpy start to this planned trilogy. Ages 12 up.

Love!!
Such a great series!!! Love it!!
Rambling, heavy handed prose with flat characters. A painful read.
Mild spoilers below.
I love Meg Cabot, and really wanted to like this book but it was basically unreadable. The narrator is insanely unlikable, bland, and has no growth or even desires of her own. The writing style is rambling and repetitive, peppered with flashbacks that drag on until you wish someone would drag you to the underworld yourself just to get away from this book. Nothing even happens until the last 1/4 or so of the book, and up until then it’s just nonsensical inner monologue referring to “the accident” and “the incident”, which are apparently two different things.
Not a single character has any development or noticeable motive and they’re really flat and dull. The main character is the worst, the only thing she is interested in is a mysterious guy she met briefly a few times and now somehow her entire life revolves around him, watching him stalk her, and waiting for him to show up and get pissy with her then being shocked and disappointed when he does. The only personality trait we learn about Pierce is that her dad is rich and she’s spoiled and doesn’t care about anything except injured birds apparently.
The e book is also riddled with editing issues such as open quotes and random parts being italicized for no reason. Save yourself the money and don’t bother with this heavy handed Greek mythology nonsense. Try The Mediator series instead, which seems to be everything this book wanted to be but actually has the heart to back it up!
This series was okay...
The girl pierce had to much of Stockholm syndrome with John... the way that the author portrays that this is okay is not right. Also I don’t really care for Pierce’s personality she acts like the victim to many times. Not a good read
