Acting in Anaesthesia

This book examines anaesthetic practice from the sociological perspective of science and technology studies. It looks at the roles played by different participants, many of which would not normally be acknowledged as 'participants' (machines, equipment, unconscious patients), and the effects of such contributions with respect to how actions in healthcare become 'accountable' in a professional sense. Important concepts also considered in this book are the ways in which practitioners learn their skills and develop 'embodied' knowledge.
