In December 2022 journalist Hilbert Haar was diagnosed with vascular dementia, with sleep apnea as its main cause. General practitioners often do not recognize sleep apnea because patients come to them with vague complaints, resulting in a diagnosis of burnout.
In this diary the author describes his diagnosis and all of its consequences, from taking blood thinners to treatment with the Resmed Air Sense 10 breathing machine.
The objective is to draw more attention to sleep apnea, so that patients can begin with their treatment as soon as possible.
