Publisher Description

A stirring call to Christian families and churches to be a people who care for orphans, not just in word, but in deed.
The gospel of Jesus Christ-the good news that through Jesus we have been adopted as sons and daughters into God's family-means that Christians ought to be at the forefront of the adoption of orphans in North America and around the world.

Russell D. Moore does not shy away from this call in Adopted for Life, a popular-level, practical manifesto for Christians to adopt children and to help equip other Christian families to do the same. He shows that adoption is not just about couples who want children-or who want more children. It is about an entire culture within evangelicalism, a culture that sees adoption as part of the Great Commission mandate and as a sign of the gospel itself.
Moore, who adopted two boys from Russia and has spoken widely on the subject, writes for couples considering adoption, families who have adopted children, and pastors who wish to encourage adoption.

Read this if you want a family

This is the best book on adoption period. My wife and I read it together while we were struggling with infertility. I honestly wasn't a huge fan of adoption at the time, but as I read the first chapter, it was like Dr. Moore was writing directly to me. Now I write this review holding my son who we adopted just 4 months ago. I cannot recommend it enough for couples struggling with infertility. Also a must read if you or someone you know is adopting...helps you understand adoption and not say the stupid comments that adoptive parents hear all the time. He's also the only person I've heard give the Biblical reason for WHY we adopt (most authors and speakers tell you all the reasons not to adopt, but fail to actually state why Christians should adopt). Thank you for this book Dr. Moore.

Great and convicting.

I loved this book. It helped me navigate the feelings I was having through my adoption process. A must read for all foster and adopt parents.

By Far My Favorite Adoption Book

My wife gave me this book as an anniversary gift in soon after it was released. Dr. Moore is the dean of the School of Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville and the father of two adopted boys from Russia. His book, Adopted For Life, has been strongly endorsed by many Godly men whose sites I benefit from a great deal. These men include Tim Challies, Chuck Colson, John MacArthur, and Albert Mohler.

As the father of two girls and one boy who are not part Japanese and white bread like I am, it is important for me to learn more about the adoption of children. Moore's book is not simply about adoption though. It is also a book about the gospel. That makes Adopted For Life unlike other books my wife and I have read about adoption. Although this book might be more appealing to certain kinds of people such as the couple who are thinking about adopting or the high schooler who is trying to figure what does it mean to be adopted, others would most definitely benefit from reading Adopted For Life. The nine chapter book starts off more theological and finishes giving more practical applications, however the entire book weaves the gospel doctrine of adoption. I highly recommend the book to all people who have been adopted into God's heavenly family.

"Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." James 1:27
