Publisher Description

My name is Nick Meyer. I lost my hand a year after I was electructed by 14,400 volts, while working on powerlines. When I was in the burn unit I met another amputee, who told me something that I wasn't ready to hear. He told me that hands are cool, but it's all about hooks. He had a hand, but he never used it. If you are reading this because you recently lost a hand I completely understand why, and I get why that's a slap in the face... It took me a long time to accept that my hook is far better than my "hand" but it is. I use my hand all the time, but it's more cosmetic than anything. The hand is far from useless. I can use it for almost everything I do, but if I had to choose one, I would choose the hook. In this book I'm going to show you what the prosthetic hands of the future will look like, the advanced technology required to make them possible, and the dangers/tradeoffs of that technology. Futuristic prosthetic hands already exist, but when it comes to timelines for consumer production, your guess is as good as mine...

Disclaimer: I wrote, and edited this on an iPad with one finger... I did my best...
