Publisher Description
In this ambitious and sweeping account, Taraborelli continues the family chronicle begun with his bestselling Jackie, Ethel, Joan and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the years "after Camelot."
For more than half a century, Americans have been captivated by the Kennedys - their joy and heartbreak, tragedy and triumph, the dark side and the remarkable achievements. He describes the challenges Bobby's children faced as they grew into adulthood; Eunice and Sargent Shriver's remarkable philanthropic work; the emotional turmoil Jackie faced after JFK's murder and the complexities of her eventual marriage to Aristotle Onassis; the the sudden death of JFK JR; and the stoicism and grace of his sister Caroline.
He also brings into clear focus the complex and intriguing story of Edward "Teddy" and shows how he influenced the sensibilities of the next generation and challenged them to uphold the Kennedy name. Based on extensive research, including hundreds of exclusive interviews, After Camelot captures the wealth, glamour, and fortitude for which the Kennedys are so well known. With this book, J. Randy Taraborrelli takes readers on an epic journey as he unfolds the ongoing saga of the nation's most famous-and controversial-family.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Taraborrelli picks up where he left off in Jackie, Ethel, Joan, adding more revelatory portraits of the Kennedys during the past four decades. To document America's "royal family," he conducted interviews with family members and their intimates, such people as Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Oleg Cassini, Robert McNamara, Pierre Salinger, Arthur Schlesinger Jr., and numerous confidential sources. He also relied heavily on the 40 years of personal correspondence between Jackie Kennedy and Lady Bird Johnson. There's a parade of triumphs and tragedies, along with an insider's view of family dynamics in crises both public and private: financial negotiations before Jackie's marriage to Onassis; family interference in Pat Kennedy and Peter Lawford's troubled marriage; Ted Kennedy's bad behavior at Chappaquiddick, and his support of Caroline's abortive Senate run to carry on the "family dynasty." Taraborrelli has a fine flair for turning dry facts into dramatic descriptions so that many oft-told stories take on a new perspective. Meticulous multilayered details breathe life into remarkable recreations of family gatherings throughout this superb "fly on the wall" survey of the Camelot clan. Photos.

Epic
I had all of the familiar facts about the Kennedy family prior to reading this book but nothing could prepare me for the entire story. There were times I felt excitement, for example when JFK won the election. You could feel how much his family loved him and how much the whole ordeal meant to the country. There were also times I felt incredible sadness which is to be expected given all they have been through. By the time I got to Jackie’s passing I was bawling. John Jrs story was heartbreaking to say the least. I have a newfound respect for Ethel Kennedy. I am not very religious and I admired the families strong faith even in the darkest of times. There are a lot of life lessons within this book to be learned but the one I came away with strongest was life puts you through unspeakable heartache and the only way to get through it is by your faith and love for family. Good read for anyone with even a mild interest in the family. I had to exhale once I was done.
Questions for the author
The book was a very interesting read. There were many stories that I never heard about and the book had many resources. My issue is that the author writes as if he was there on many occasions. Also, many of the stories were so vivid it’d make you wonder whether the author embellished the stories for entertainment value or to fill in the blanks. Nonetheless, the book was really good.
Mr. Camelot President Kennedy
The great men who have to save the world and better future of mankind were killed by the same ignorant humanity. Sample Jesus, Lincoln, Kennedy …
