Publisher Description
Horror novelist Franklin Davis is desperate and will do anything to achieve success to provide for his family, even work in a convalescent home to role-play his latest macabre idea with the elderly denizens.
While there he makes friends with a friendly codger named Eli and floats his premise; What if a person could return after death if they made a binding promise to do so?
Eli chastises Franklin for his foolishness. Of course, Franklin doesn’t believe in this idea either—he’s just gathering material for his book to make it seem as real as possible…
Eli reluctantly agrees and makes the promise… And from that moment forward, Franklin’s life will never be the same…
Serial murders… Events that defy rational explanation… Spectral visitations… Nothing is what it seems to be… And Franklin realizes in despair:
A door once opened—may not be able to be closed again…

Nightmare inducing -- but in the best way
This book was one of the few I have read recently that really got under my skin and reverberated in my brain for quite some time. Definitely not for the faint of heart! The theme of "who do you really know" was done really well and left a lasting impression. You may never look at your neighbors or friends the same way again!
Creepy and enjoyable, well crafted horror story
D.B. Douglas has a strong and succinct story telling style that will grab and surprise you. Although I thought the first chapter was a little bit slow, the story escalated in a creepy way very fast from there.
It's a little unsettling like everything connected with convalescent hospitals (in my opinion), but a great read for anyone who enjoys a good scare with a little gore thrown in.
I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
