After the Final Whistle

Eight years ago, one panicked laugh cost Owen Mercer the man he never stopped loving.

Now, at thirty-four, the former England flanker has lost the only life he's ever known. Two knee reconstructions have ended his professional rugby career, and the last thing he wants is to become somebody else's inspirational comeback story.

Then he moves into a guesthouse behind Callum Reid's Yorkshire home.

Six months. Separate doors. A perfectly sensible arrangement.

Except Owen is still hopelessly in love with his former teammate.

Callum, thirty-six, keeps Northmere's community sports centre running on stubborn determination, unpaid hours, and cold toast eaten over the kitchen sink. He's spent eight years trying to forget what happened in Cardiff. Letting Owen back into his life is dangerous enough. Letting him back into his heart could ruin him.

But Owen starts showing up with morning coffee, cooking actual dinners, and coaching a hopelessly lovable touch-rugby team from a folding chair.

And suddenly, staying away from each other becomes impossible.

Their second chance is explosive, intimate, and more complicated than either man imagined. As their physical chemistry reignites, old wounds begin to heal—and new vulnerabilities emerge.

When a lucrative sponsorship threatens to turn Owen's private pain into a public spectacle, and the community centre's future hangs in the balance, both men must confront the habits that drove them apart.

Because loving someone means more than looking after them.

Sometimes it means letting them stay.

A steamy, emotional MM second-chance romance featuring former rugby teammates, forced proximity, hurt/comfort, praise, found family, and a hard-won happily ever after.
