Afterglow

AFTERGLOW traces the story of one family’s love, loss, grief, and remembrance as a son fights an epic, ultimately losing battle with AML Leukemia and bone marrow transplant.  It is a father’s memorial to that beloved son; a record of his life for his two young children and for his descendants who will carry his genes forward to future generations.


        This story  chronicles the high points of his early life, and as a husband, needed father, and rising young attorney.  It journals details of his daily treatment over the six months and seven days of illness, engendering great hopes and expectations of restored health, only to give way to crushing depression, grief, and emptiness as the battle was lost. Living through the peaks and valleys, entire families are engulfed when one member is stricken.  Survivors can never be the same.

  

       After five-thousand years, cancer remains modern civilization’s most enigmatic malady, bringing suffering and grief to almost every family on earth.


        Pathways for living through pathological grieving are discussed, intended as positive steps other “survivors” might find helpful is coping with the loss of loved one’s to blood and other cancers.


         In writing this story with the help of many of his son’s friends, the author sees revealing new aspects of his son’s character and personality which made his life so meaningful and memorable.  This enlarged portrait of Scott Garrett’s high energy, goal-driven, ethical life will be his inspiring legacy.
