Felt a little guilty
I felt a little guilty reading this in digital form on a screen.
But it was a fantastic read.
A reactionary screed with no meaningful discussion
I expected this book to be a serious discussion about what has gone wrong with modernity. No such luck. We have abandoned God and Christendom and are now damned to suffer the consequences of relativism, identitarianism, and totalitarianism. We have fallen from grace—only a return to cult of the sacred (any sacred, apparently) can redeem us. The author misapprehends much of what he discusses, throws down straw men left and right, and chides us for our original sin. The Unabomber manifesto was a more eloquent read. The author’s take, while claiming to expose the cause of our nihilism, is itself the fevered nihilism of an ultra-reactionary incapable of comprehending an alternative viewpoint.
Regressive homophobe and transphobe
Terrible. Which is a shame because the premise is good, but a look at his notes and sources alone tells you to run. Another clueless bigot.
